MONSTER OF FRANKENSTEIN "Tree of Death"

This is a story that defies categorization...
...as it contains many seemingly-unrelated events that branch organically from a root cause, much like a tree...
As we mentioned in an earlier post, the Monster serves almost like a force of nature rather than a living being.
While the guilty often feel his wrath, sometimes innoocents, like the young lovers, suffer as well.

MONSTER OF FRANKENSTEIN "Mark of the Skull"

Grave-robbing produced the body parts that created the Monster...
...so what happens to a grave robber who deceives the Monster is ironic indeed!
This strip served as a template for later series, like Man-Thing, which featured creatures with minimal intelligence.
The people who interact with them are the driving force in the plot, and the creature serves as a catalyst for justice.
Whether it's punishment or reward depends on the people and their motivations!
But in Briefer's world, sometimes the innocent (like Hargol's wife) suffer before the guilty receive justice!

MONSTER OF FRANKENSTEIN "Art Imitates Life...AND Death"

The real  monsters in this tale are both brothers and  artists!
But, what is greater?
Their talent or their depravity?
Interesting note: here's the cover for this issue...
...featuring a blurb about the story, but otherwise totally-unrelated!
Now, here's the cover from last issue...
...which looks like it goes with this issue's story, and not the one it covered (as seen HERE!)
My theory is that Briefer conceived covers first, then wrote the story around them.
In this case, this story was revised so much, that it didn't make the deadline for the previous issue, so an already-prepped tale was published.
But, there was no time to do a new cover, so the cover with the Monster coming out of the painting was utilized!
Ironically, the yellow cover used for #30 would have been suitable for #29 with a different caption...but it wasn't finished at that point!

MONSTER OF FRANKENSTEIN "Entranced"

Dick Briefer enjoyed using this series to tell human interest tales...
...with the Monster as the axis around whom everything revolves!
Be back Monday for next week's daily dose of horror!

MONSTER OF FRANKENSTEIN "She-Monster"

Now we're going full-bore horror...
...as Dick Briefer cuts loose with a wild, demented tale that I'm surprised Fredrick Wertham didn't cite in Seduction of the Innocent!
Ironically neither the woman nor the Creature were the real monsters!
